Success for Kemnay Players in Regional Trials

in

Eight Kemnay players were selected for the Under-13 Regional Trials recently held at Garthdee Sports Centre by North Region SYFA. From a total of 90 players over two days of trials, Ian Kelly and Sean Wilson, Kemnay 97 and 96 respectively, did enough to attract the interest of the selectors and were called back for the final trials held February 27th. Congratulations to all the players who attended but special mention to Sean Wilson who has been asked back to the next stage; the SFA Final Trials during March. Neil Paterson, Regional Secretary North Region SYFA said of the players, “the effort that all the players put in (throughout the trials) was very good. The manner in which they conducted themselves reflected very highly on their clubs. They made the selectors job very difficult.”

Kemnay 96 have a real team ethic, win, lose or draw together, they will all take great pride in Sean’s achievement.

Sean has been with Kemnay FC since he was 4 and is one of the clubs longest serving players. He trained with a rag tag group called the under-8’s (before we had the current structure), who trained on Sunday mornings. The only indoor slot we had was with the under-10 girls team, so he trained with them. Proof that it’s always good to get kicked around at a young age. He attended Aberdeen’s football coaching sessions in the academy, also very worthwhile. Sean had 4 excellent years with Kemnay 97 and the expert coaching of Brian Cheyne, twice winning player of the year. He was also part of the squad that won the Kemnay P6 tournament. In 2008 Sean moved up an age group to Kemnay 96 to develop his strength, skills and experience of other positions. He was last year’s player of the year. Coach Blayre says, “Sean has worked hard for this opportunity and thoroughly deserves his place in the SFA trials.”

Kemnay 96 strongly believe in the development of players. The team are still competitive, currently mid-table and getting stronger. They want to win and they celebrate goals, but more than this they know it’s a team game. Players know they all individually contribute to the performance of the team. Every player has their strengths; they know what they are and they build on them. Every player has their weaknesses; they know what they are and they work on them, often we work on them. No-one blames, everyone celebrates and Kemnay 96 continues to improve.

Coach Blayre says, “We (K96) have a team of confident individuals who value their participation in the sport and their team, as much, if not more, than the defined goal of winning. They are aware of their own and the teams development, the strengths and weaknesses of both and contribute in discussions on what next after each game and milestone. Although lead by me, each individual player knows their contribution is valued and that the team belongs to them.

Kemnay 96, it could be your team!
