KEMNAY FC 97 2 PETERHEAD 2
Peterhead had beaten Kemnay twice last season so a tough game was in prospect and in the end; a draw was probably a fair result.
Peterhead had the first chance with an unplanned backward header by James M putting a player through but he blasted his shot high and wide. James D was called into action a few minutes later before Matty had Kemnay’s first chance but under pressure, he could only shoot at the keeper.
A bit of a defensive blunder gifted Peterhead their first goal. A shy on the right saw the ball fall to CK on the Kemnay bye-line but his attempted clearance landed straight at the feet of a Peterhead striker who then proceeded to blast the ball home (0-1).
Kemnay’s response was almost immediate with Iain running on to a through ball from Matty and firing the ball past the helpless keeper (1-1).
With 17 minutes played, Peterhead regained their lead when Connor H was knocked off the ball in the box and their No. 10 was able to shoot low into the corner (1-2).
Kemnay then dominated the game with Iain and Matty both having chances but failing to convert. Peterhead’s No. 11 was proving a handful and after beating about 4 players, James D had to push his shot round the post. Fraser produced his own bit of magic, thundering down the wing past about 3 players but there was nobody in the box able to connect with his cross.
Kemnay finished the half strongly and Fraser elected to cross when he might have shot after being put through by a good throw from Adam. Kemnay suffered a big setback when they lost Matty due to injury after he landed awkwardly as the result of a heavy tackle.

Charlie had come on to replace Matty and his first contribution was to win a penalty. He was pulled down from behind and James M stepped up to blast the ball high past the none-to-happy keeper (2-2).
After 5 minutes, Adam tried to float a free-kick into the top corner when a blast might have been better and a few minutes later, a good free-kick from James to Charlie saw Iain through on goal but the keeper blocked his shot.
The next 15 minutes saw Kemnay dominate the game with Iain hitting the post, Fraser running through on goal but shooting past then Adam making space in the box before blasting the ball straight at the keeper and Charlie just failing to convert the rebound.
Peterhead made a number of substitutions (6 in total in the 2nd half) and whilst this interrupted their rhythm, they forced a great save by James D from a long-range shot.
Kemnay’s frustrations continued with Adam making a great run on the right and forcing the keeper to knock his lobbed shot onto the bar. With 5 minutes remaining, Iain put James M through on goal but he pulled his shot wide.
With 2 minutes remaining, Peterhead won a free kick just outside the box but thankfully their No. 9 floated the ball over the top right hand corner.
In the end, a draw was a good result against a strong Peterhead team but Kemnay were perhaps unlucky not to take all 3 points.
