KEMNAY FC 97 1 CULTER COLTS 3
The signs weren’t good with keeper James D calling off sick and striker Matty failing to recover from the heavy knock he took the week before. Adam was drafted in as the keeper and Charlie took Matty’s place in attack. At least Kemnay looked the part in their new “Brazil-style” strips.
Kemnay certainly didn’t start like Brazil and were under a lot of pressure from the off. Not for the first time in games against Culter, the referee had to stop the game to speak to one of their “overly-enthusiastic” coaches. Kemnays’s first chance came after 12 minutes but Iain could only poke the ball past the post under pressure from a defender.
Culter’s pressure eventually told after 18 minutes with Adam allowing the wet ball to squirm out of his hands and the opposition’s diminutive No.6 (Tyler) latching onto the loose ball and forcing it in (0-1). A few minutes later and Culter almost scored again from a corner and this happened with almost all corners in the first half. Kemnay started to come into the game a bit more but they were missing Adam’s drive in midfield and neither Iain nor Charlie were able to convert the few half-chances that came their way.
It was Tyler again who came close for Culter after 30 minutes with a good run and shot and Adam did well to dive to his right and push the ball past the post. Iain had a good run down the right and when the ball fell to Charlie, his shot was weak and the keeper was able to gather.
Half Time: Kemnay FC 97 0 Culter Colts 1
Charlie had a couple of chances at the start of the second half before Adam was called into action. He started to come out of his goal but stopped and luckily the Culter striker fired the ball straight at his feet. Culter were caught “not playing the whistle” and it was James M that carried-on playing and crossed the ball over to Charlie in the middle of the box. For the second week running, Charlie was brought down in the box and the penalty was given. James M had scored from the spot the previous week but for some reason, Jack took this one and he blasted it over the bar.
Culter’s No. 6 continued causing problems and after some good work, the ball broke to their No. 18 20 yards out and he blasted it into the top left-hand corner of the net (0-2).
With 20 minutes played, Sean came on for Charlie and his first action was to get his knee to a ball from Iain but it floated agonisingly onto the top net after beating the keeper (from Karen’s screams, she certainly thought the ball was in).
Five minutes later and Adam coolly watched the ball rebound from his cross bar but Culter’s 3rd came a few minutes later when their No. 15 nicked-in at the front post to head the ball into the net after one of his team mates had been given acres of space on the left (0-3).
The last 10 minutes were Kemnay’s best and Sean did well to make space but was forced wide and the chance was lost. Culter replaced their keeper and the new keeper’s first touch of the ball was to pick it out of the net. Connor made a powerful run through the middle and Fraser lobbed his pass over the keeper and into the net (1-3). Iain almost scored Kemnay’s second but panicked slightly and pulled the ball left of the post.
The game finished with a couple of good saves from Adam. The first was with his feet after CK had been dispossessed in defence and the second was from a pile driver which he did well to hold.
