Today we welcomed Dyce BC to Bogbeth Park for today's B League Fixture.
Dyce are always going to present some of our toughest challenges of the season but they are also a great barometer for us to judge our performances and technical abilities against.
Todays pre match chat was focused on how we have competed extremely well in spells of our previous games but how sometimes our concentration levels falter a little as we forget some of our defensive duties.
We had to reshape the team a little due to Dax suffering from Toe injury but we were confident the players available would give another good account of themselves.
The 1st period set the tone for the entire match with both sides playing some wonderful football and displaying some great individual skills. It has taken us a few weeks to adapt to the quicker pace of B League but today we matched Dyce in every dept.
Our defense of Cameron Fraser and Stuart were working well as a unit, limiting Dyce to only a few opportunities whilst at the other end Lennon was laying off some unbelievable passes taking the ball under control and passing with a single touch. The engine room of Kieren Leah and Aaron were doing a fantastic job both creatively and defensively working tirelessly to close Dyce down.
Ii was hoping to take some credit for our opening goal just before the interval but i can't as Leah completely ignored my request to take a quick corner to Kieren but instead delivered a beautiful ball for Alfie to head home from close range.
Normaly at the interval Stevie and i have some points to put across regarding areas of improvement as well as encouragement for doing most of what we have asked but today we had nothing but praise for that opening twenty minutes was absolutely superb.
The second period began with Dyce on the attack and you could sense that perhaps the interval chat had been slightly different to ours but effective as they created a few chances. Our defensive part of our midfield was finding it hard going as eventually Dyce got the breakthrough although with a little fortune as we were very unlucky when clearing the ball. A second goal from Dyce may have seen us buckle previously but not today as we broke forward with Lennon creating a shooting chance and Kieren following in with a cool finish.
The 3rd period again saw both sides create chances and on this occassion Dyce manged to convert one of thier whilst at the other end we were hitting the bar, firing just over and being denied by a very good Dyce Goal Keeper. Despite all our efforts we were just pipped at the post by that single goal but all credit to the Dyce coaching staff who acknowledged just how close the game had been.
We were absolutely delighted by what was by far our best team performance over 3 periods of the season and we can only thank everyone for listening and showing just how good a side we can be.
Next fixture Brazil sorry against Cove.
