This weeks Development League game took us to Westhill to play Westdyke. With the second most important football match of the day taking place at Pittodrie we agreed on an early KO of 9.30.
With our number one goalkeeper - Samuel - unavailable the task of keeping goal in the first 15 minutes fell to Craig.
The early kick off certainly didn't seem to effect the Kemnay players who started off like they played the previous week with some wonderful passing football which was very pleasing on the eye.
An excellent run by Keiron and some fine link up play with Scott split open the Westdyke defence and Kerion's shot was well saved by the home keeper.
The game was going from end to end with both teams playing some fine attacking football. After some good work by Ruth who set up Keiron whose shot hit the post.
It was Westdyke who were to take the lead and that was followed a minute later by their second which was extremely unfair on the Kemnay players who did not deserve to be behind.
Kemnay continued to attack and despite losing a couple of goals were very solid with Aiden in particular defending well and extremely composed on the ball when breaking out of defence. He certainly has been an excellent addition to the Kemnay squad.
Not long after Westdyke scored again - this made the score 3-0 to Westdyke.
Thanks to an excellent save by Craig the scored remained 3-0.
Kemnay got what they deserved near the end of the first 15 minutes when again excellent work by Scott & Ruth created a chance for Keiron who cooly slotted the ball past the Westdyke keeper.
For the second 15 minutes we changed goalkeepers with Keiron taking over.
Kemnay continued to play good attacking football with Archie now up front terrorising the home defence and on several occassions could have scored had it not been for good defencing and goalkeeping by the home team.
The Kemnay defence were holding Westdyke at bay with Zoe & Brett now assisting Aiden who was still marshalling the defence well, and when called in to action Keiron was up to the task with several brave saves diving at the feet of the attacking team.
Unfortunately the excellent build up play that Kemnay were playing could not result in a goal with the final pass often going astray - but they never stopped working hard.
The second 15 minutes remained goalless which was great credit to both well disciplined teams.
Keiron remained in goals as he was doing a fantastic job as deputy for Samuel.
Kemnay reduced the deficit not long after the start of the final 15 minutes with some excellent work by Ruth & Scott who set up Archie to bullet a shot past the home keeper. At this stage it was Kemnay that was doing al lthe pressing with Ethan in midfield controlling things down the left and wih Kerr putting in some solid tackles at the back.
Despite their good build up play Kemnay could not break down a well organised Westdyke defence and it was Westdyke who were to get the crucial next goal which was soon followed by another two to make the final score 6-2 to Westdyke.
The scoreline does not reflect the balance of the game but it was Westdyke who were more clinical in front of goal.
However if Kemnay continue to play the flowing passing football that is often seen at the Emirates and the Nou Camp then we will win more games than we lose as some of the football on display is exactly what the Scottish game is crying our for. All the Kemnay players should be extremely proud of themselves and the remainder of the fixtures cannot come quick enough.
This weeks Man of the Match or in this game Men of the Match goes to Aiden & Keiron
