| 31 Oct 2010 - 10:30am | Bogbeth Park, Kemnay |
We welcomed Cove to Bogbeth Park for this Halloween encounter on a fine sunny and at times warm morning with conditions perfect for playing football.
It was Cove who started the brighter with some crisp passing and strong play from their midfield. Samuel was called into making two terrific saves in the first 5 minutes with Cove doing most of the attacking. Kemnay were up against it and were very sluggish in the opening period with passes going astray and not the usual effort that we have come to expect.
It ws Cove who took a deserved lead with a good finish.
This seemed to waken up the home team who started to get the ball forward to Keiron who was causing mayhem in the Cove defence with his strong runs, and it was after shruggung off one of the Cove defenders that Keiron charged into the box and cooly slipped the ball past the advancing keeper.
Unfortunatley it wasn't to stay level for long as Cove were to get the next goal again after some fine individual play from midfield.
The game was starting to open up with play going from end to end with defences on top and some fine saves by Samuel. Aiden was controlling the home defence and putting in some strong tackles.
Cove were starting to test Samuel with several shots from distance and with one of their attempts which Samuel thought was going past unfortunately crept in at the post. Cove continued to cause havoc in the home defence and deservedly scored another before the whistle went for the end of the first 15 minutes.
The effort and attitude that was missing from the first 15 minutes came back in the second period when Kemnay seemed to up their pace and take the game to Cove.
With Ruth now on and making some crucial tackles and strong running down the wing she had a good effort on goal saved by the Cove keeper. Against the run of play Cove scored again with Samuel helpless in the home goal.
The heads didn't drop and Kemnay continued to play good football with Scott making several good runs and creating a couple of chances. The home teams hard work was rewarded when a fine run by Craig saw him blast the ball past the Cove keeper.
Aiden was continuing to work hard and making stron decisivie tackles and Scott was showing some excellent skills when on the ball.
Cove were also creating chances and the game was opening up and it was Cove who were to score again.
With Archie now in defence and putting in strong tackles and showing great enthusiasm which was missing in the first 15 minutes.
A good run by Archie saw the ball break to Craig who from a tight angle squeezed the ball past the Cove keeper. Kemnay finished the secodn 15 minutes the stronger which was pleasing to see.
The final 15 minutes continued to go from end to end but some poor defending by Kemnay when at times Cove had at least 3 players on their own in the box saw Cove score two quick goals.
Thankfully the Kemnay heads didn't drop and Ethan was making some good runs down the left and put in several good crosses into the box unfortunately there was no one there to finish them off.
With Aiden moved into midfield it was from this position that he broke up a Cove attack and beat two players before blasting a shot from 20 yards past the Cove keeper.
It was Kemnay who were now threatening and when the ball broke to Craig about 25 yards from goal his half volley just when flying over the bar.
Kemnay certainly finished the stronger but on the day Cove deserved their win with some excellent players on display. However Kemnay should not be ashamed of their performance - especially in the last two fifteen minutes when the attitude and effort was there for everyone to see. If we continue to show this amount of effort we will surely be rewarded.
This week there are two Players of the Match - Keiron and Craig
