| 14 Nov 2010 - 10:30am | Bogbeth Park, Kemnay |
Today we welcomed Ellon to Bogbeth Park for our Development League game.
It was a lovely morning for football with the pitch slightly heavy with all the recent rain we have had however this didn't stop both teams playing some excellent football.
It was Ellon who started the brighter and thanks to some good defending by Zoe, Aiden and Campbell and a couple of good saves from Sameul kept the away team out.
It was slightly against the run of play that Kemnay took the lead when some good footwork by Ethan set up Keiron who coolly slotted it past the away goalkeeper.
Kemnay didn't hold the lead for long and Ellon scored a well worked goal to bring the game back to level for the first 15 minutes.
The second 15 minutes belonged to the home team with the midfield in particular running the show. Scott wide left, Ethan pulling the strings in the middle and Craig flying down the right, a midfield that Mark McGhee could do with having at this present time.
We were solid at the back with Aiden and Archie keeping it tight in front of Samuel and Keiron causing havoc up front. At times the football was breathtaking with slick passing, good running of the ball and some fantastic finishes.
Scott in particular was showing some fine skills tying the Ellon defenders in knots with his trickery.
It was Craig who was to create the first goal of the second period with a fine pass to Keiron who blasted it past the keeper.
When Ellon did threaten the bravery of Samuel was evident racing off his line and diving at the feet of the oncoming attacker to keep the away side out.
Some good football by Aiden who threaded a pass through to Scott who beat a couple of defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner.
Kemnay continued to press and were rewarded with another goal when the ball broke to Scott outside the box his first time shot was heading goal bound when with his strikers instincts Keiron helped it on it's way to claim a hat-trick.
The home side certainly dominated the second fifteen with what was perhaps the best football that they have played this season.
Ellon had nothing to lose in the last fifteen minutes and pressed the home side with some strong tackling and good passing which resulted in a deserved goal.
Aiden had moved into midfield and was playing some good football and after controlling the ball he threaded a pass through to Keiron who shot narrowly past. Kemnay continued to threaten but Ellon always looked dangerous on the break and scored again.
Kemnay almost scored immediately from the kick off when Keiron had a mazy run and beat all before him before a last gasp tackle denied him a fourth goal of the game
Kemnay were extremely unfortunate with the next goal they conceded when an Ellon shot bounced of Archies head and over the helpless Samuel.
That was the last action of a very exciting game with the game finishing 4-4.
There were many positives from the game in particular the effort and commitment of all the players with some fine individual skills in particular from Scott and Craig in midfield.
However this weeks Player of the Week goes to Keiron, not just because he scored a hat-trick, but for his overall performance in bringing other players into the game, he is improving each week as a player and his commitment to the team.
