"RING RUSTY KEMNAY JUST FAIL TO CLINCH 4th ROUND TIE"
KFC94 weren't at their best in this Scottish Cup "Duel in the Sun" at Bogbeth Park this afternoon.
Having said that Kemnay looked to come back from the dead when "Captain Courageous" James Mitchell slotted away a penalty with just 5 minutes left after "Avram" had been fouled in the box by a Jeanfield centre back who was given his marching orders by Referee Christie.
The "Gaffer" called for the first eleven to be aggressive and put their opponents on the back foot from the start but strangely this just didn't happen...quite the contrary.....with the team being "timid" this allowed Jeanfield to have the majority of play in the first half and coming close on a few occasions.......however they were to find Kemnay keeper Cheyne in fine form. Alan Grant did come quite close on 2 occasions but squaffed the ball wide when in previous weeks he would have hit the target. Michael Lamb came very close with a directed header from a cross in from the right but in fairness there was much to be said from the Gaffer at half time
Half - time 0 - 0
Kemnay came out for the second 45 with more purpose but were met by an equally resolute Perth side who took the lead in the early stages.....this seemed to spur on both sides as Kemnay looked to retaliate Gerrard came close with a header hitting the junction of the post and crossbar after a fine delivery from Mitchell. Anderson was now starting to be a menace down the left flank with some telling crosses from this area and also from a series of corners. It was apparent the Jeanfield keeper wasn't the best with crosses and kickouts from dead ball but Kemnay weren't able to take advantage. Despite this one such cross in was scrambled by their keeper and much to the delight of the sizeable home support GLEN PATERSON was on hand to head in the equaliser from six yards.
Things were starting to get "meaty" as both teams pushed on to get the advantage but it was Jeanfield who edged ahead with a fine finish.....the game looked beyond KFC when Jeanfield stretched their lead with a "free" looped header in the six yard box with 3 KFC defenders looking on. The fourth being a well worked cutback with again a Jeanfield player getting first to the ball to slot in. KFC goalie CHEYNE kept his team in the game with a superb penalty save when controversially referee Christie awarded the pen after an apparent "dive" from a Jeanfield forward. CHEYNE was to be the hero on many occasions dealing proficiently with corners and assisting in changing defence into attack with his trademark "kickouts"
At 4-1 all seemed lost but a glimmer of hope in the closing stages when Grant was clean on goal only to be pulled back by a Jeanfield defender who was promptly given his marching orders much to the bemusement of the Jeanfield touchline. This was after a clash involving Paterson who was extremely lucky not to receive an early bath as well.
It was then up to MITCHELL to convert the penalty and did so with much confidence to the delight of the home support.
Full - Time 2-4
Man of the Match:- Callum Cheyne 9/10
Gaffers Comments:- I was expecting my guys would have been up for it today.....but it seemed the holiday break has affected "match fitness" and would view many of my starlets being a bit "ring rusty". Having said that we did improve in the second half and if it wasn't for basic defensive slip ups we could have snatched it......but it was not to be.....Jeanfield whilst being nothing startling themselves were the more hungrier and always had the physical edge on us.....so in the end we were beaten fairly. We wish Jeanfield the best in their next tie in the Scottish Cup. For us this is another learning experience for the guys....I am confident that we use this experience for our league and local cup campaigns......
