KEMNAY FC 97         5              STONEHAVEN      2

KFC 97 lost the away fixture to Stonehaven a week after they had lost to another Stonehaven team in the cup so they were out to take revenge today. With no sign of the referee, some of the spectators were wandering if the game might be cancelled but he did eventually show about 10 minutes late.

KFC 97 were definitely up for the game from the start and Iain had the first chance in 2 minutes, running on to a through-ball from Adam but he fired his shot straight at the keeper. The first goal came in 10 minutes when the ball broke to James who then passed to Iain to guide it past the keeper. Fraser had a weak shot saved by the keeper before Stonehaven scored from essentially their first attempt on goal - their dangerous No. 9 scoring low to the left after forcing his way through the Kemnay defence.

Stonehaven were probably edging it at this stage and their No.9 hit the bar from long range. Fraser had a great run but was unable to square the ball to Iain waiting in the middle. KFC 97 were starting to pass the ball a bit better and Iain had a couple of chances but was unable to convert. With the first half coming to an end, Kemnay did exactly as they had done in the previous game and scored with the last kick of the ball. A corner eventually saw the ball break to Iain and he was able to “squirm” it into the net off the right hand post.

Half Time:  Kemnay FC 97     2        Stonehaven      1

An inspired substitution by Brian saw Dean scoring with his first touch. From the centre, Adam passed the ball in a training ground move to Fraser who then rampaged down the left wing, fired in a cross and Dean was there to score from the loose ball. Two goals in a 30 second period either side of half time settled the Kemnay nerves and wrecked the confidence of the opponents. Five minutes in and Adam found James on the right who then crossed for Iain to score his 3rd and Kemnay’s 4th with a header.

Adam was next to have a shot on goal but the keeper saved it well. From the resulting corner, Ryan Macrae made it 5-1, scoring from the middle of the box. The game was now won but the result could have been more convincing if Iain had his shooting boots on (can’t be too hard on him as he had scored a hatrick to this point) – two or three times he was through on the keeper but was just unable to convert.

Stonehaven were so desperate that they actually brought on a substitute nicknamed Samaras (his flowing locks resembled the real thing). Fortunately for Kemnay, the consequences of this change were about the same as they have been for Celtic. Credit to Stonehaven as they did come more into the game as the Kemnay legs tired and they were rewarded with a headed consolation goal just before the final whistle.

This was the best performance for a long time with Kemnay first to almost every ball and the defence a lot tighter. More displays like this and second place is a definite possibility!
