Kemnay FC 97 5 ELLON MEADOWS 3
Kemnay FC 97 lost their second player to a broken bone (arm) when James Mitchell was injured in a training session against the under-15s, but this wasn’t going to stop them recording a victory in their first game in the B League.
Adam was first with an attempt on goal but his weak shot went narrowly past the right-hand post. The first goal came after about 7 minutes when Fraser picked-up a loose ball, powered-down the left wing then crossed the ball to Jack who calmly passed the ball into the net. There was a suspicion of offside but the referee quickly told the complainants who was boss (more later).
The game was evenly balanced but with 15 minutes gone, Kemnay’s inability to deal with corner kicks re-surfaced. The cross went right through the defence to the opposition’s No. 9 who was on hand to force the ball home.
Five minutes later and Alex pulled off a point-blank save from Ellon’s huge No.12 after he had made space for himself on the 6 yard line. KFC 97 took advantage of this wonder save when Iain ran on to a ball over the defence and calmly lobbed the ball into the net from 20 yards as the keeper advanced.
First Half: KFC 97 2 Ellon Meadows 1
Ellon almost scored within seconds of the restart but somehow the ball was scrambled away. With 5 minutes on the clock, Ellon again took advantage of Kemnay’s poor corner defending, this time the ball being blasted high over the helpless Alex to make it 2 – 2.
KFC 97 soon replied with a well worked goal. Sean collected a ball that had been lifted over the defence, ran about 20 yards then squared the ball to Iain who slotted it under the keeper for his second and Kemnay’s 3rd.
Better was to come a few minutes later with an almost identical move but this time Sean kept going and calmly fired the ball under the advancing keeper.
At this point the referee took offence to comments from the sidelines and threatened to send the whole crowd off – you wouldn’t see that at Ibrox or Parkhead?
Jack, Fraser and Sean came close again before Ryan deflected a shot from Ellon’s No. 12 past the post. With 5 minutes to go, Iain had a shot to the top left corner saved by the keeper but when the corner came across, the keeper fluffed it and Connor Hunter was on-hand to bundle the ball over the line for No. 5.
With minutes to go, Ellon’s No. 12 forced his way through and gave Alex no chance to make it 5 – 3. The final action was a save by Alex after a free-kick had gone right through the defence.
A good start to the B League campaign!
