Kemnay FC 97 played their final game of the season at Monymusk and just about did enough to merit a win. The most memorable thing about the whole game was actually the referee who was very vocal and extremely encouraging to the boys on both teams, complimenting good play when he saw it.
The first 5 minutes were instantly forgettable then Kemnay won a free-kick about 25 yards out. Brian initially shouted for Connor Ross to take the kick but he then joked that Alex had been watching You-Tube for hints on free-kicks and encouraged him to take it. Alex had obviously been taking-in what he had been seeing and launched his free-kick high towards the centre of goal and over the despairing keeper’s hands.
Adam produced one of his AB-scoops to set up a chance on goal but it was wasted. After 10 minutes, the ball broke to Alex and he doubled Kemnay’s lead with a rocket shot (or toe-poke as his dad called it) over the keeper’s head.
The best move of the game followed soon after with Adam beating a couple of players before sending the ball down the wing to Alex who in turn sent the ball across goal to Sean but he unfortunately saw his shot blocked.
James Duncan’s first action in the Kemnay goal was to gather the ball at the bye-line after 15 minutes had passed. Two minutes later he was tested by a free-kick from the halfway line that he was unable to hold and was fortunate to push it onto the post before bravely blocking a follow-up shot.
With 10 minutes of the half remaining, Adam had a shot on goal after some good work by Alex and he later had a shot cleared off the line before limping-off with an injured foot.

Half Time:     Kemnay FC 97     2        Culter Boys Deeside      0

Sylwek came on at half-time but he too suffered a foot injury and lasted only 5 minutes. Two quick corners for Kemnay suggested that the one-way traffic would continue but just like the corresponding away fixture, it was Culter Boys Deeside who had the better of the second-half.
Fraser did have a couple of shots, the first being saved and the second being deflected out of play. Ryan Cowley was playing his final game before moving to Elgin and he had been made captain for the day. He had a very good game and the highlight came when he was dispossessed by Culter’s No. 8 but had the speed and determination to chase him down and win the ball back when a goal looked likely.
Alex and Dean created a chance for Chris but he was stretching and was just unable to direct it towards goal. Fifteen minutes in and James Duncan came to Kemnay’s rescue when he dived at an opponent’s feet and did enough to put him off scoring from the rebound. Jack had a couple of good touches before the referee was heard to shout, “superb wee fella’ – well played” and this certainly kept the crowd amused.
Chris did eventually put the ball in the net but the referee blotted his copybook by ruling it offside.
With about 15 minutes left, Culter finally received the reward for their building pressure when their powerful No. 7 received a good pass and gave James no chance with his low shot. The remainder of the game was played mainly in the Kemnay half with the home team managing to hold out for a 2-1 victory.
Third place in the league was a great result after a hard season and with a couple of new faces over the summer, who knows what might be possible next season.
