K2001 v Glentanar BC

When Where
3 Oct 2010 - 10:30am Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

This weekend we welcomed Glentanar to Bogbeth Park for our Development League fixture.

In what was an extremely entertaining game with both teams intent on passing the ball about and trying to play the beautiful game the way it was intended.

It was Glentanr who came out of the traps the fastest and put the Kemnay defence under severe pressure from the start. Only good defending by Aiden, Michael and Ethan and some terrific saves by Samuel kept Glentanar at bay.

This was not to say that Kemnay did not have their chances - with some good interplay between Ruth and Scott setting up Archie who shot narrowly wide.

The game was being played at a terrific pace with the play going from end to end - with Glentanar pressure earning them the first corner of the game which was whipped into to Kemnay box only for it to be cleared upfield by Aiden who was was once again marshalling the Kemnay defence.

Some good football in midfield saw Scott having a shot on goal which was well saved by the Glentanar goalkeeper.

Soon after Glentanar were to take the lead with a long range effort which flew over Samuel in the Kemnay goal. Then within a minute they scored their second to make the score 2-0 to Glentanar after the first 15 minutes.

Again Glentanr started the brighter with Samuel called into several good saves as well as coming well off his line to clear the danger.

The Glentanar number 9 was causing the Kemnay defence no end of trouble with his mazey runs and one such run saw him beat the Kemnay defence single handed before crossing for their forward to have an easy finish. 3-0 Glentanar.

I have said this many times one of the best qualities this Kemnay team has is team spirit and never giving up.

Kemnay were starting to come more into the game with Keiron causing the Glentanar defence problems with his strong running. Some good football by Scott and first time pass to Keiron saw him through on goal and he calmly slotted it past the Glentanar goalkeeper to make it 3-1 to Glentanar.

Kemnay were looking the more threatening at this time and against the run of play Glentanar for their fourth.

Again Kemnay pushed forward but strong defending and excellent goalkeeping by Glentanar kept the home team out.

The Kemnay second goal was one to be remembered. A clearance from the Glentanar defence went straight to Campbell about 40 yards from goal and his shot come clearance went straight at the Glentanar goal and thanks to a little help from the Glentanar goalkeeper the ball ended up in the back on the net.

The second 15 minutes finished with Glentanar leading 4-2.

Early Kemnay pressure resulted in several corners, but unfortunately they could not take advantage of the opportunities that fell their way.

It was Glentanar who were to get the next goal after a corner was played into the box and a cool finish from the Glentanar forward made it 5-2 to Glentanar.

Kemnay continued to try and get back into the game and thanks to some good defending and the woodwork the third Kemnay goal took a while to come. It did however after a good individual effort by Archie who beat several Glentanar defenders before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper.

The Kemnay defence were holding firm with Aiden putting in some solid defending and always looking to play the ball out of defence. Ruth now in defence was also putting in a solid performance with strong tackles.

Keiron was terrorising the Glentanar defence who were struggling to cope with him and he was unlucky not to be rewarded for his strong play.

An excellent run by the Glentanar right back saw him burst into the Kemnay half before unleasing a ferocious shot which gave Samuel no chance.

Kemnay weren't to be denied another goal before the end and it was Archie who was to get his second goal of the game with another good finish. He was unlucky not complete his hat-trick when once again the crossbar denied him.

The game finished 6-4 to Glentanar in what was a very entertaining and well contested game and full credit to both sets of players.

Kemnay can play better but their commitment was their for all to see with some impressive performances.

This weeks Player of Week goes to Samuel who once again showed some excellent handling and shot stopping.
