K2001 7 v Ellon Meadows Colts 6

When Where
14 Feb 2010 9:30am

With the first two games of this year being cancelled due to the weather we took no chances and booked the Sports Village in Aberdeen for our home game against Ellon Meadows Colts.

If you think the Dons comeback against Celtic on Saturday was impressive then the fightback produced by KFC2001 was something of equal standing if not better.

With two evenly matched sides desperate to play football after the long break this match was played in a very sporting manner with both sides knocking the ball about extremely well.

The game started at a frantic pace with both goalkeepers producing excellent saves to keep the score at 0-0.

As the game was settling down a powerful run by Keiron saw him beat several Ellon players before a precise pass to Brett who calmly slotted it past the Ellon keeper to make it 1-0. Shortly after Scott showed a great burst of speed and control to play in Keiron who unselfishly passed to Brett whose shot was deflected into the Ellon net to make it 2-0 to Kemnay, although it certainly wasn't one sided as Ellon had created several good chances but through some strong tackles by Campbell and fine saves by Rhys KFC2001 somehow managed to keep them out.

Just before the first 15 minutes were over Ellon deservedly scored a goal after some fine football.

Score Kemnay 2-Ellon 1

If the first 15 minutes belonged to Kemnay then the second 15 minutes definitely belonged to Ellon who tore through the Kemnay defence with some excellent passing and control with Kemnay at times chasing shadows.

With the exception of a shot by Archie which went narrowly wide and a tremendous volley from Scott from the half way line which the Ellon keeper did well to keep out it was all Ellon.

The pick of the bunch being a cross from the left which was volleyed into the top corner. Not even Jamie Langfield could have got to this one.

Score Kemnay 2 - Ellon 5

One thing this Kemnay team has is character and the heads never drop as they are all determined to give their all for the team as this third 15 minutes showed.

With Ethan switching from defence to midfield he imposed himself on the match immediately with some good footwork and an inch perfect pass to Keiron whose shot left the Ellon keeper with no chance. Score 3-5.

Scott, Archie, Ethan and Keiron were now starting to dictate the game with intelligent passing and runs into space. One particular powerful run by Archie produced the next Kemnay goal when he rounded the last defender to calmly slot it past the Ellon keeper. Score 4-5.

With Kemnay now pushing forward a tremendous shot by Scott went narrowly past the post.

Ellon also had their chances but some good defending by Zoe, Calum and Campbell kept them out. They were well supported as ever by the reliable Rhys in goals.

Just as Kemnay were pushing for the equaliser it was Ellon that broke forward with some good play down the right and a cool finish by the Ellon striker. Score 4-6.

Instead of letting the heads drop Kemnay hit back immediately and good passing between Keiron and Scott set up Archie for Kemnay's fifth goal. Score 5-6.

Kemnay were now looking for the equaliser and a strong run by Archie who beat a couple of defenders before blasting it past the Ellon keeper to make if 6-6.

A draw would have been a fair result as both teams gave their all with strong tackles, excellent passing and tremendous finishing.

However the Kemnay team refused to stop running and this determination resulted in a last minute winner scored by Keiron. Ethan, Scott and Archie combined to leave Keiron to sweep the ball into the Ellon net to make the final score Kemnay 7 - Ellon 6.

Both sets of coaches can take great pride in the effort and commitment shown by both sets of players and if this is how they can play after almost 2 months without a game then the forthcoming games cannot come quickly enough.

Thanks to Ellon for a fantastic game and the headlines in the P & J tomorrow should be about this game and not the one that took place a few hundred yards along the road the day before.
