With the recent weather we took the decision last week to book a time at the Aberdeen Sports Village for this weekends game against Ellon Meadows Black.
Unfortunately we had two players who didn't turn up and this proved to be the difference in the latter part of the game when the large pitch took it's toll on the Kemnay players.
However once again you could not fault the effort and commitment of the players that did make the trip into Aberdeen.
It was Ellon who started the brighter with some good football and only some strong defending by Aiden, Keiron and Michael kept them out.
Not that Ellon were having it all their own way, some good link up play between Ethan and Scott set up Aiden who shot narrowly wide.
With Craig the lone striker he was a handful for the Ellon defence with some good runs using his pace to good effect.
It was Ellon who were to score first with a well taken goal after some good build up.
The game was flowing from end to end with both teams playing very good football.
It was Ellon who were to score next with a lucky deflection leaving Samuel with no chance.
Scott then had a good effort saved by the Ellon keeper and in defence Ruth was helping out with some strong tackles.
The second fifteen minutes was more like the Kemnay we have been used to this season with the movement and passing exceptional and some excellent goals thrown in also.
Ethan was starting to pull the strings in the middle of the the park spraying passes and setting up his colleagues. It was in fact Ethan who had the first chance for Kemnay with a good shot that flew over the bar.
Shortly after this a good pass by Aiden sent Scott off on one of his mazy runs and his shot from 20 yards flew into the top corner - beauty of a goal.
It was all Kemnay now and they were gunning for the equaliser which was not long in coming. Some fantastic passing between Scott and Craig set up Ethan who showed great composure when beating the Ellon keeper with a fine shot.
The Kemnay players did not stop pressing and were once again rewarded with a fine finish from Craig.
All credit to Ellon they didn't give up and soon scored an equaliser after a fine passing move which the finished off well.
The game was continuing to flow from end to end and it was Ellon who were to score next with another well taken goal with the Kemnay defence posted missing.
As I have said on many occasions this season this Kemnay team doesn't know when to give up and continued to press for another goal.
Ethan was first when a ferocious shot was well saved by the Ellon keeper who couldn't hold the ball and Craig was first to react knocking the ball over the line.
Unfortunately as the end of the second 15 minutes drew to a close Ellon scored two quick goals when Samuel was left exposed at the back with the Kemnay defence posted missing.
As I mentioned earlier in the report the shortage of players showed in the final 15 minutes when Ellon who had several substitutes finished the stronger and scored several goals in this period.
During this period however Kemnay had several chances the best one which fell to Aiden who fought off a couple of challenges before unleashing a shot which rebounded off the post.
As our match reporter wrote, there were a couple of dodgy refereeing decisions which went against the Kemnay team and a letter has already been drafted and sent to the SFA as we felt the referee made some unexplained decisions.
A very enjoyable game and congratulations to Ellon on winning but a special mention to the 8 Kemnay players who turned up and gave a great account of themselves with determination, committment and at times stylish football - well done boys & Ruth.
Player of the Match for his solid defending, reading of the game, distribution and ferocious shot goes to Aiden.
Before I forget a special metion and thank you to the parent who refereed the entire game - Mr David Caney - much appreciated although you will have to work on your fitness.
