Today saw KFC 2002 make the short trip to Rothienorman to play Insch and District FC.
This was an eagerly anticipated game for Kemnay as Insch were unbeaten so far this season, winning most of their games quite comfortably and also having played them in a pre-season warm-up and loosing narrowly to them we knew this would be a great test for us.
Unlike our previous game against Insch, Kemnay started the match the brighter of the two teams and soon took advantage of our midfield dominance by scoring twice through Aaron with two well taken goals. It was just the start we wanted, however Insch are a very good side and they began to create chances of their own but our star Goal Keeper Cameron was in top form once again with some excellent saves. We were now under more pressure than we have been all season and we began to loose our shape and make one or two errors, which Insch capitalized on bringing the scores level just on the whistle for half-time.
You could see by the look on a few of our players faces as to how disappointed they were but a few gentle reminders and pointers as to what we did well and where we needed to improve over the juice break was hopefully going to spark them back into life for the second period.
We started the second period brightly again with everyone looking up for the challenge but got caught on the counter attack with Insch finishing well once more. Now it was time to see what KFC 2002 were made of and boy oh boy they are made of many qualities not least grit and determination. We as coaches and parents have been treated to some fine football and team performances over our previous seven games but what unfolded over the remaining fifteen minutes was quite breathtaking as Kemnay climbed off the floor in true Rocky Style and delivered some 1-2 combinations with everyone playing their part, scoring five goals with another three from Aaron and a double from Kieren restoring a healthy lead by the time the whistle blew for the end of the second period.
This team talk was a far easier one as everyone was absolutely outstanding from Dax and Fraser at the back and Leah in midfield and Stuart playing in four different positions and Alfie working his socks and boots off for the good of the team, we as coaches could not have asked for any more from them.
The third period saw us make some continues changes to give everyone a break as the pace and challenge of the game was beginning to show, which was understandable considering we had only eight players due to a late call off this morning. Despite these changes Kemnay were still playing really well and although we conceded a late goal it did not dampen their spirits as they finished the game to a very well deserved round of applause.
This was by far one of our greatest challenges so far and it's clear to see why Insch have done well this season as they have a very good squad of players who work extremely hard for each other but today was Kemnay's day and we look forward to playing Insch again in the second part of the season.
Our next match is at home to Culter BC, where hopefully we can continue with our good form and put together another strong performance.
Extremely well done to everyone, you should be very proud of yourselves as your coaches certainly are.
