Our final League Development game of the season saw us make the trip into Aberdeen to play Glentanar.
On a beautiful sunny morning it seems ridiculous that this should be our last game given the weather we had to endure over the winter months. The idea of summer football which is coming soon certainly seems a good one.
The game started with Glentanar on the attack from the kick off with some good football and they were certainly getting encouragement from their coach who was acting as an extra man given he was on the pitch the whole game (and he wasn't refereeing).
Kemnay soon got into their stride and after good play between Ruth and Samuel they forced a corner which Archie took and sent in a good cross into the box which unfortunately was missed by the Kemnay attackers.
Ruth was making a nuisance of herself with some tenacious tackling and hassling the Glentanar defence however a long ball from the back by Glentanar saw them break forward with the Kemnay defence posted missing and scoring the first goal.
The game was flowing from end to end with the defences on top, Archie and Keiron put in some solid tackles.
It wasn't long before Kemnay got their first goal when Archie picked the ball up on the half way line and strode forward before unleashing an unstoppable shot from about 15 yards which the keeper had no chance with.
Despite pressure by Kemnay it was Glentanar who were to score two goals in quick succession to leave the score 3-1 to Glentanar at the end of the first 15 minutes.
Kemnay got off to a flier at the start of the second 15 minutes with Brett pushing forward from defence and placing his shot well out of reach of the Glentanar goalkeeper.
Archie, Michael and Brett were solid in defence with some excellent tackles.
Glentanar forced a corner which was well defended by the Kemnay defence.
Some good football by Ruth saw her pass to Keiron who played in Scott who took one touch before firing a shot into the top right hand corner from about 20 yards,
Kemnay were pressing for the next goal but it was Glentanar who were to score next with some good football which again left Rhys with no chance in the Kemnay goal.
Rhys was called into action soon after when he came off his line to dive at the feet of the Glentanar attacker - extremely brave goalkeeping.
It was Glentanar who were looking dangerous and added another soon after to leave the score 5-3 to Glentanar after the second 15 minutes.
As I have said on many occassions in previous reports the Kemnay kids just do not know when they are beaten and in true Kemnay fashion they staged a comeback that all the parents should be proud of.
They showed grit and determination way beyond their years and played the final 15 minutes as if it was the last football they were to play.
First it was Brett who scored his second with a fine finish and good play by Scott and Ruth.
It was all Kemnay and a couple of good shots by Scott were well saved by the Glentanar goalkeeper.
Soon after some excellent passing play between Archieand Samuel saw Archie fire a shot past the Glentanar goalkeeper.
Any time Glentanar got forward they were faced with a strong Kemnay defence of Archie, Kerr and Samuel who were tackling as if their lives depended on it and the determination not to lose a goal was evident to see.
The next Kemnay goal was well worked and a strong run by Samuel who brushed a-side several Glentaner players before placing his shot well past the Gelntanar goalkeeper.
With Kemnay taking the lead for the first time you would have thought that they would have settled for a 6-5 win but not this team and they continued to push for more goals and they did not disappoint.
Some good passing between Keiron and Ruth set up Scott who once again used his left foot to good effect with another blistering shot from distance which left the Glentanar goalkeeper with no chance.
The final say was left to Scott who completed his hat-trick with a neat lob from a tight angle. These goals were for his grandad.
I have said before how proud I am of all the kids that play for Kemnay 2001 but no more than today when I thought they put in a display that they themselves should be extremely proud of. There was a togetherness that was evident with everyone playing for the other and showing tremendous team spirit.
Special thanks to Jane and David Caney who assist by taking the match notes that allows the coaches to coach and enables me to make the weekly match reports for which I hope you enjoy reading.
