Culter Boys Deeside 3 KEMNAY FC 97 6
This was the proverbial game of two-halves with KFC 97 eventually “holding on” for their 5th successive victory when at one stage it looked like they might easily reach double figures in goal terms.
Kemnay started brightly and it was Fraser who broke down the left wing, beating a couple of players before sending in his cross. The ball eventually broke to Ryan McCrae but his shot was easily saved by the keeper. It was 5 minutes before Culter ventured up field but James was able to smother the ball before they could convert.
Ten minutes in and some good work from Adam saw the ball breaking to Iain and whilst his shot wasn’t the sweetest, it was still good enough to trundle into the left-hand corner. Two minutes later and it was 2 – 0 to Kemnay, this time it was Connor Hunter who forced the ball home after it had been bobbling around the box for what seemed like an age.
A bit of complacency in the Kemnay defence was punished by the Culter No. 7 to reduce the deficit to 1 goal but things improved a couple of minutes later when Alex was fouled in the box and he duly converted the penalty. Things got even better after 20 minutes when Alex beat about 3 players before passing the ball to Adam and his goal-scoring shot was so powerful that it burst the side of the net (or was it the fact that the net wasn’t pinned-down?).
There wasn’t much of a wait for the 5th goal and this time it was Alex who scored after some good passing between Iain and Adam. The keeper appeared to have saved the shot but it somehow had enough momentum to dribble over the line. Just on the halftime whistle, Kemnay made it 6 when seemingly after no build-up, the ball landed at Alex’s feet and he was able to slide it past the advancing keeper. His parents were trying to remember whether they had cancelled their long-standing promise to reward a hat trick with a five pound note.
Half Time: Culter Boys Deeside 1 Kemnay FC 97 6
The second half was the complete opposite of the first with Culter dominating long periods of play and thankfully they were only able to score twice. It was ten minutes before Kemnay crossed the halfway line and this was after the Culter No. 2 had scored their second goal. After 20 minutes, a good flick-on to Iain saw him bearing through on goal but he couldn’t convert. With 10 minutes to go, a corner from Culter on the right surprised James at his left-hand post and he unfortunately guided the ball into his own net for the opposition’s third goal.
With 5 minutes to go, Kemnay had their best (and almost only) chance of the second half with Iain flicking on a corner towards goal but it was kicked off the line.
A second half to forget but in fairness, the game was won before half time and it’s the result that matters.
