Culter BC Colts       2           Kemnay FC 97          3

The last time Kemnay FC 97 played Culter Colts, second place in the C league was at stake and with it, guaranteed promotion. On that occasion, Culter won by 5 goals to 2 but it was probably the referee’s performance that is remembered most and some heated moments on the touch lines. This was a chance for Kemnay to avenge that defeat.
The initial signs weren’t good with Culter forcing two early corners. The tall Culter keeper looked like he might catch any high ball but his early fumble gave Kemnay the confidence that he could be beaten. Culter had almost all the possession in the opening 10 minutes but it was Iain who rounded the opposition keeper from a good ball by Adam before being forced too wide to convert.
Culter’s first real shot on goal came from their huge No. 20 but debut keeper Callum saved it comfortably. Unfortunately for Kemnay, Culter’s No. 20 wasn’t so generous after 20 minutes when he fired the ball high into the net from the 18-yard line.
Kemnay gave a second debut of the day to another Callum (from Glentanar) and both new players look to be very good additions to the team.
The Culter keeper fumbled for a second time but he redeemed himself by catching Iain’s attempted lob. Jack then attempted the short-corner trick that had worked well the previous week but it came to nothing on this occassion.
With minutes to go to half time, Alex couldn’t untangle the ball from his feet when it looked like he might score and Adam let fly a rocket shot that went just past the post. Unfortunately, Culter doubled their lead just on half time after a good move saw the ball beat the Kemnay defence and one of their strikers running through to beat Callum in the Kemnay goal.

Half Time: Culter Colts     2     KFC 97      0

Kemnay had the wind advantage in the second half and started in positive mood. Iain powered-down the right wing but there was nobody in the middle to convert. Soon after, some good control by Alex saw the ball break to Adam but his weak shot was collected by the Culter keeper. With 5 minutes gone, Kemnay finally got their reward when a shot by Fraser was initially saved by the keeper but Alex picked-up the rebound and squared the ball to Adam who was able to poke it into the net.
The Culter coaches were becoming animated and continually berated the referee for any decision he made that wasn’t in their favour (the same as they did in the previous game!). Culter had a clear shot on goal but Callum saved well.
Twenty minutes in and Iain made space but his shot was straight at the keeper. Culter came really close when Callum was only able to palm a shot away from goal, the being returned into the danger area and hitting the bar before being cleared by the grateful Kemnay defence.
Liam and Connor H were closing the Culter attack down well, keeping their No 20 at bay. Charlie was comfortably sweeeping away any danger at the back.
With 10 minutes left, the game turned with Kemnay being awarded a penalty. The referee adjudged that the Culter keeper had pushed Alex as a corner was being taken (although in reality, Alex might have been backing-in to the keeper). I don’t think anyone expected the decision and perhaps it was influenced by the continual comments coming from the Culter sidelines? Alex dragged himself to his feet and calmly slotted the ball under the keeper.
Kemnay were now in the ascendency and 5 minutes later, Kemnay were awarded a corner, which Connor Ross took well, finding Sean at the back post who was on hand to fire the ball into the net from close range.
With a minute to go and Culter pressing hard, Callum did well to hold on to a long range shot.

A great and deserved comeback that no-one would have predicted after the first half.
