On a cold April morning down by the beach Kemnay were playing away to Cove BC. Reuben Gedge was our only player missing from the line up this week. The pitch was not in the best of condition and uneven, but this did not put any of the two teams off playing what was to be a very good game of football.
Kemnay looked sharp from the outset with some crisp passing and classy football. Liam, Mathew L and Sebastian communicating and linking well in the midfield, driving forward and feeding Ethan with some good balls allowing him to make his presence known to the home teams defence and forcing the goalkeeper in to making some good saves.
Although Cove were playing some good football they were not causing Kemnay much problems, with Cameron and Mason in great form in the defence. Kemnays first goal came from Archie starting play from the back throwing the ball out to Cameron on the left, who swiftly knocked the ball on to Sebastian who wasted no time in delivering the ball through to Ethan to send the ball past the keeper for Kemnay's first goal.
Kemnay did not ease up with the pressure on Cove as Mathew L fired shots on goal, only to be denied by some fine saves. Cove were looking pretty good on the break, but could not break through the visitors defence, who were supported well by the midfield. Kemnay continued to build their game from the back, supporting each other with plenty of movement off the ball and driving forward forcing Cove to give away a corner. Sebastian took the corner quickly, directing the ball to the back post, where Mason had snuck in completely unmarked to head the ball low in to the net for Kemnay's second goal.
Cove started the second period well, working the Kemnay defence hard and Archie having to use his safe hands to prevent the home team scoring. Once again Archie with some quick thinking, distributed the ball to Ethan, who dribbled past several players to drill the ball in to the back of the net to score Kemnay's third goal. Kemnay seemed to be in control of the game at this point. Mathew R was driving forward on the right creating some great chances for Kemnay and won a free kick just outside the box. Mathew himself took the free kick well, but was unlucky to send it just inches wide of the post. The visitors worked hard for every ball and used possesion brilliantly. Mathew R played a great ball on to Ethan who hit the back of the net for his hat trick and Kemnay's forth. Lewis and Liam were linking up well on the left of the park creating plenty of chances. Lewis was unlucky not to score when he cracked the ball off the post with a fantastic left footed shot.
The third period started with Kemnay looking just as strong as the previous. Sebastian took a shot on goal from just outside the box, which had the goalkeeper at full stretch to parry the ball out for his defence to clear. Cove were keen to get on the score sheet, but fine defending and great goal keeping prevented the home team having their way. Archie started play again, finding Sebastian who took the ball down beautifully, turned and passed out to Lewis on the left who calmly tapped it past the keeper for Kemnay's fifth goal. Kemnay's midfield were linking well switching from Lewis to Mathew L, driving on making it difficult for the home team to keep up, but despite this, Cove were still looking dangerous on the break. Archie again cleverly throwing the ball out to Mason who took the ball forward to the midfield to continue the drive and find Lewis in space, supplied him with the ball to net his second and Kemnay's sixth. Kemnay played some lovely football through out the whole game and deserved the win. Many of the chances created and a couple of the goals scored came from the play starting from Archie, right through the field. Kemnay's final goal was no exception. Cameron recieved the ball from the quick thinking keeper, bulldozed his way through the midfield to take a shot at goal across the front of the keeper which was possibly just going wide, but Mathew R positioned himself well to tap it in to the goal for Kemnay's seventh.
Player of the Match:- Once again every one of the boys played their heart out as a team. Ethan was very akward for the home defence to deal with. Lewis was solid in defence and created lots of chances from the left. Sebastian winning every ball in the centre of the park. This week for his hard work attacking, defending, distribution and 100% effort every minute on the field the award goes to Liam Morrison.
