Colony Park 6 v K2001 2

When Where
25 Apr 2010 - 10:30am

On a beautiful sunny morning we made the short trip to Port Elphinstone for the local derby against Colony Colts.

With perfect overhead conditions we were entertained by two teams intent on passing the ball and trying to play the beautiful game as it was intended.

The game started with Colony putting the Kemnay defence under pressure but with Archie in the heart of defence they stood firm with some solid tackles and excellent interceptions. Archie was ably assisted by Zoe and Calum.

Some good football in the middle of the park by Kemnay saw Ruth slide a pass through to Craig whose shot went narrowly past the post. Moments later it was Craig again who had a shot from distance which sailed over the bar.

The game was now flowing from end to end with both defences proving strong with Archie in particular in total control at the back for Kemnay and making some strong tackles.

With Ethan in the middle of midfield, along with Ruth on the right and Scott on the left the Kemnay passing was a joy to watch and with more composure in front of goal could quite easily have taken the lead.

It was however Colony who were to take the lead in the closing minutes of the first 15 minutes with some good football and a neat finish past the helpless Rhys.

First 15 minutes finished 1-0 to Colony

The next 15 minutes with several changes for both teams it was Colony who totally dominated and with deflections and bad luck were to score 4 goals to Kemnay's 1.

The highlights of this 15 minutes for Kemnay was a fantastic free kick from Scott who bent it round the Colony wall only for it to be blocked on the line and turned away for a corner. The Kemnay goal was worth waiting with a good run by Archie who passed to Ruth who unselfishly layed it onto the birthday Craig who shot past the Colony goalkeeper.

Second 15 minutes finished 5-1 to Colony

The last 15 minutes was perhaps the best for Kemnay with some tremendous football with slick passing good movement and great teamwork.

Kemnay were doing all the pressing and a superb shot by Scott was well saved by the Colony goalkeeper. Kemnay kept up the pressure and it was Keirons turn to test the keeper with a rasping shot which the keeper did well to hold onto.

Another fine shot by Scott after a pass by Ethan kept the pressure on the Colony defence.

Kemnay made the break through their play deserved when some good passing saw Keiron through on goal and with good composure he slipped it past the Colony keeper.

The Kemnay defence were also doing there bit with Campbell, Archie and Adam putting in strong challenges and keeping the Colony attackers out.

Kemnay forces a succession of corners which they were unlucky not to convert into goals with only good defending and bad luck keeping them out.

It was Colony who were to score next against the run of play and again Rhys in the Kemnay goal had no chance.

As in previous weeks the Kemnay heads did not go down and they contiuned to work hard for the goal their play deserved and Archie in particular was all over the pask and his energy levels were a joy to watch.

The game finished 6-2 to Colony.

The Kemnay players should be extremely proud of their performance and on another day they could have scored several more goals.

Particular mention this week to Archie who was playing in the unfamiliar role of centre half but slotted into the position like a young Alex McLeish (older readers will know who I mean) - he was composed, strong in the tackle and his distribution from the back was excellent.

Well done to Kemnay for their effort.
