Colony Colts 3 V K2001 6

When Where
21 Mar 2010 (All day)

We made the short journey to Port Elphinstone to play Colony Colts in this local derby.

With the sun shining and conditions for playing football perfect we knew we were in for an entertaining game of football and that is exactly what we got, with two evenly matched teams.

It was the home side who started brightly and they were quickly on the attack and it took a good save from Samuel to keep them out.

They kept up the pressure and won two corners which were dealt with by the Kemnay defence being marshalled by Keiron, Zoe and Campbell.

Kemnay couldn't get out of their own half and it was no surprise that Colony took the lead when some neat build up play saw their forward beat Samuel with a smartly taken finish.

This goal seemed to waken up the Kemnay players and an excellent run by Arhie who beat several Colony players before shooting just wide.

Despite some pressure from Kemnay it was Colony who were to score the next goal with a fine shot which beat Samuel.

Kemnay were forced into a substitution when Zoe was injured and replaced by Ruth in the defence.

Not long after Kemnay opened their account when Archie floated in a free kick which was headed into the top corner by Craig. A headed goal is indeed an extremely rare event and one that was enjoyed by all the kemnay players.

Kemnay were now right back in the game and starting to terrorise the Colony defence with Craig & Archie both making some very impressive runs.

It was now Scott's turn to get involved in the game when he beat several Colony players before slipping the ball through to Archie who shot narrowly wide.

Kemnay could sense an equaliser wasn't far away and they didn't dissapoint. A good run by Archie who unselfishly passed to Ethan who side footed it into the Colony net leaving the keeper with no chance.

Chances were being created at both ends with Scott making some terrific runs and Archie tremendous in attack.

The first 15 minutes finished 2-2 which was probably a fair reflection of the game.

Kemnay were quickest off the blocks in the second firteen with Archie making it 3-2 with a good run and shot which left the Colong keeper with no chance.

Keiron who had been moved into midfield made a strong run through the middle and his shot was well saved by the Colony keeper.

Shortly after Kemnay conceded a penalty when a trip in the box left the referee with no choice, thankfully he did not brandish a card.

Samuel made a fantastic save from the penalty unfortunately the Colony player was quickest to react and smashed the rebound into the net - unlucky Samuel.

Kemnay were starting to knock the ball about with some neat passing and control which was pleasing on the eye and after one move a great shot by Craig went whistling past the post.

It wasn't long before Kemnay scored again when a fine run by Archie who squared it to Scott who shot past the Colony keeper.

Soon after Archie got what all his hard work and endeavour deserved when he scored a goal of real quality - beating several players and using his pace to leave the Colony defenders well behind him before beating the Coling keeper with an excellent shot.

Ruth was starting to get in on the act with her pace and some excellent passes opening up the Colony defence.

Chances were continuing to be created at both ends with Samuel making some fine saved and Michael in particular who had slotted into the heart of the defence making some strong decisive tackles.

The second 15 minutes finished with Kemnay leading 5 -3.

Kemnay made a change in goal with Archie who had worked tirelessly up front going in goals with Samuel playing at right back.

Archie was proving to be as good a goalkeeper as he was striker with some terrific saves.

The game was continuing to go from end to end with some terrific football from both teams but the defences were staying strong.

It was Scott's turn next to test the Colony keeper who made a fine save from a shot from distance.

The next goal came from Kemnay when some fine play by Ethan and Scott saw Keiron break forward and score with a well taken shot.

Colony never gave up and it took some strong tackling from Michael, Zoe and Campbell and some fine goalkeeping from Archie to keep them out.

The game finished with Kemnay winning 6-3 but full credit to Colony who only had 7 players and no subtitutes for making it such a terrific game.

The Kemnay players should be very proud of their perfomance as the passing and communication between them all was probably the best of the season so far, it just proves what they are capable of and it's up to them to maintain this standard.

Our next game is another local derby against Kintore United B at Bogbeth Park.
