It was bitterly cold when the squad left Kemnay early on Sunday, but to their pleasant surprise, they arrived at Sheddocksley with no sign of the heavy frost they left behind.
The game was to be played over three 20 minutes periods.
K2000 started the match slowly with Scott Dey in goals not being given much protection from his outfield players. One or two moves were strung together, though there was no end product here. Sheddocksley proved much stronger in this part of the game, scoring 3 goals with no reply from Kemnay.
The second period was much more positive from the Kemnay side. Nathan Smith took up his customary position in goals, and as always performed heroically, but this time, the K2000 back line was doing their bit as well. Both Ethan Gordon and Kyle McRitchie were strong in the tackle, with excellent positioning denying Sheddocksley time and space to play their passing game. Further upfield, Joe Reid and Carly Paterson were sticking to their task in midfield, ably assited by Kirsty McLean, who although playing upfront, was happy to drop back and help the midfield where required. The opposition took an early lead in this section, but K2000 equalised with a well worked set piece. Kemnay were awarded a corner, which was taken by Scott Dey, with two K2000 players making runs to the near post dragging their markers with them, space was left for Cameron Muirhead to arrive unmarked and finish past the keeper with the deftest of touches. The goal was greeted by a huge cheer from the K2000 support and players, which seemed to spur the side onto greater things in the 3 period.
The whole squad stepped up a level in this section scoring 3 goals with no reply. The goals came from Callum Campbell, with a great cross cum shot from wide on the right, Scott Beverley with his customary blockbuster from distance, and Thomas Kinghorn with a cool finish, slotting it past the advancing keeper after a pass from Scott Beverley. The game was by no means finished though, with both teams determined to grab what would be a winning goal. Cameron Muirhead and Scott Dey were superb here, tackling and heading with real conviction, you could see they were determined not to lose this game. In midfield, Scott Beverley and Callum Campbell were stronger than the opposition, and Thomas Kinghorn revelled in his favoured striking position, never giving the Sheddocksley defence a minute's peace.
The final whistle sounded to a huge round of applause from spectators from both sides, which was really deserved by both sets of players for producing some great football on a heavy pitch.
The K2000 coaches, John, Ally, David and Jamie were particularly proud of the character shown by the team after a difficult start, it bodes well for the future if the team are willing to roll up their sleeves and really play for each other when things don't go too well.
Next week K2000 play host to Westdyke in what promises to be another exciting match, where hopefully the squad can continue to play as well as they have in recent weeks.
