Newmachar 1 - 4 KFC2000

Later than planned the game against Newmachar kicked off at 12:15, right from the start the play was exciting with the teams being very evenly matched. To use a cliche it was end to end play.  Courtney Gray got in a very early shot and was unlucky to miss, seconds later the play was down the other end with Duncan Mutch having to make an excellent save. The play settled but continued to cover the field with Cameron Muirhead playing a very solid defence game, along with Liam Clark & JimBob McDonald. The whole team were looking solid all the way through. The play was so evenly matched it deserved it's 0-0 score after the first 20 mins, but the referee appeared to forget to check his watch and the whistle didn't sound until just after Newmachar got the first goal in the 23rd minute - leaving the first period 1-0.

The KFC Team could feel the excitement that their good play had generated, and the score did not deflate them, they went straight back out there after a team talk from Ally & Jamie, and again the play was relentless right from the start of the second period. Immediately Scott Beverley had a shot which cracked off the top bar, with Nathan Sangster getting a crack at it on the rebound tipping it just over the crossbar, unlucky indeed . However a couple of minutes later Duncan took another powerful goal kick which was nicely picked up by Nathan Sangster who took it down to have a shot which rebounded off the Newmachar goalie, and this time Callum Campbell caught the rebound to score the equaliser 1-1

Scott Beverley had a cracking 3/4 pitch length run and got a good couple of shots in and again was unlucky. The passing throughout this period was excellent with the defence looking solid and the midfield and forwards being able to stay in the right places to pick up the balls. Everyones fighting for the ball was showing a marked improvement, and they just weren't giving up on any of the balls, going to meet them with a vengeance. The KFC fighting, tackling and more importantly winning the balls  was obviously beginning to strain one or two of the Newmachar players with the NM coach taking off one of his own players for an off the ball tackle on Callum Campbell. The NM players were playing a good game but were getting nowhere with KFC today.  Scott Beverley was finally rewarded for all his efforts getting a chance at another shot which again the NM goalie got his hands to , but this time Scott was not letting it go and caught the rebound to make the score 1-2.  Towards the end of this period Nathan Sangster was awarded a free kick just inside the opposition half way line, with the whistle about to go coaches, players and parents alike told him to take a shot  which he did and was very unlucky as the ball just curled past the top right hand corner of the goal.

Not to be outdone, as the play was still end to end, the clockwork midfield of Callum C, Nathan and Scott was pretty much indestructible today and if you got through them the extremely solid defence of Cameron, JimBob and Duncan was a force to be reckoned with.

The start of the third period saw the guys understandably looking a bit tired, but still spirited, Newmachar had the first shot which Duncan got his hands to and they were awarded a corner but again the defence team came into their own and the ball was soon cleared out of danger. Nathan Sangster again picked up the ball to take it down and have another shot at goals which was well saved by the Newmachar keeper.  Soon after, it seemed KFC picked up second wind and looked like nothing was going to stop them, and it was non-stop end to end stuff again. Callum Campbell sent a great clear through pass from the midfield directly to Scott Beverley who dutifully picked it up to run, shoot and score 1-3.

Nemachar then had a goal disallowed for a definite handball incident which seem to spur the guys on even more,  from another powerful goal kick from Duncan Mutch which followed this incident Nathan Sangster not to be outdone on the day picked it up to run down and take yet another shot and this time the ball flew home making the final score 1-4 to Kemnay.

The whole team took part in every goal, every clearance and never stopped working right up until the final whistle, great game!

Thanks to Newmachar, for their hospitality (everyone should have Bacon Butties!) and for the game.
