Kemnay FC 2000 travelled down to Kintore to play in what amounted to a local derby, played in horrendous conditions. The weather was more suited to scuba diving than football, though the Kemnay team braved the elements superbly, to put on a great show for the large travelling support.
The Kintore team were full of players, much bigger and stronger than the K2000, but this didn't stop the team from getting stuck right in!
Nathan Smith played in goals for the whole match, and as always, was brave, if at times unorthadox! His kicking was sound, and he never let the side down. Due to the conditions, the coaches decided it best to leave him in for the 3 parts of the match, and this proved worthwhile during the inevitable late onslaught from Kintore, when on more than one occassion, he put his body (and face!) on the line to prevent Kintore from scoring.
In defence Kyle McRitchie, Cameron Muirhead, and Scott Dey were strong as always, and were ably assisted from midfield with Ethan Gordon, Matthew Cassidy (arguably his best performance for K2000), Callum Campbell and Thomas Kinghorn, with Kirstie McLean playing well, both up front and in midfield. Scott Beverley led the front line superbly, scoring 3 goals, but he'd be the first to admit, without the help of his teammates behind him, it may not have happened.
K2000's goals come from Scott Beverley (3), Callum Campbell (2) and a great goal from Thomas Kinghorn.
All in all, a good day for K2000 against a powerful Kintore team, the match was played in awful weather, and it's a credit to both teams that they managed to play so well for the duration of the match.
Next week K2000 travel to the mecca of football that is Sheddocksley, (the more experienced readers will know what I mean!), to play a game that always proves tough, but after today's performance, they should be looking forward to the match with confidence.
