This weeks Development League fixture saw Kemnay entertain Banchory Hawks at Bogbeth Park.
With entertain being the best way to describe the match which was played in an excellent sporting manner.
It was Banchory who were first on the attack and a good save by Rhys kept the score goalless. Kemnay were defending well and some excellent tackles by Archie and Brett who were helping our their defence helped save the day.
Banchory were having the better of the first 15 minutes but on a rare Kemnay attack a shot by Craig went narrowly past the post. It was only a matter of time before the Kemnay rear guard would be beaten, firstly Banchory hit the post and Campbell cleared the ball for a corner. Banchory whipped in a ferocious corner which was turned into his own net by Craig. With the possession Banchory had in the first 15 minutes it was probably a deserved lead.
However Kemnay came out for the second 15 minutes and with some excellent passing and good forward play they were starting to worry the Banchory defence. Against the run of play Banchory scored their second goal of the game with some fine football played from midfield. A high ball into the Kemnay box was well saved by Rhys who was having another fine game.
Good link up play between Archie and Scott down the left side and they were starting to create problems for the Banchory defence. Some good footwork by Brett released Scott whose shot into the bottom corner was well saved by the Banchory goalkeeper. Once again solid defending by Campbell who is starting to make the centre of defence his own was keeping the Banchory attack at bay. Brave defending by Keiron saw him make a goal line clearance using his head. Campbell then got the ball in the face but he dusted himself down and got back into the thick of the action.
Again some excellent passing football from Kemnay saw Scott and Archie combine and the shot from Archie was well saved by the Banchory goalkeeper. Despite all their efforts Kemnay could not make the breakthrough which was down to some good defending and excellent goalkeeping by Banchory. It was Banchory who were going to get the next goal to make the score 3-0 after the second 15 minutes.
The third 15 minutes saw Banchory score in the first minute to make it 4-0. Banchory were causing problems for the home defence and a two footed save by Rhys kept the score the same. The Kemnay defence with Keiron, Campbell and Adam tackling as if there lives depended in it were keeping the Banchory attack out.
Again some good passing by Kemnay saw them break upfield and when the ball fell to Keiron he blasted it into the Banchory net to make the score 4-1, a goal thoroughly deserved by Kemnay.
Kemnay kept up the attack and another shot by Scott went narrowly past the post.
With some good football down the right by Banchory saw a cross into the box which was finished well by the Banchory striker to make the score 5-1.
The Kemnay heads did not go down and they continued to play some excellent passing football and their efforts were rewarded when some fine football saw the ball fall to Scott who calmly slotted the ball into the Banchory net for what was a quality finish.
The game finished shortly after to make the final score 5-2 to Banchory.
Banchory are a very good footballing side and they pass the ball about well.
Kemnay more than matched them for long periods of the game and were extremely unfortunate to lose the game. However the spirit within the team is excellent and everyone of the players is fighting for each other and doing their utmost for their team mates.
Once again I was extremely proud of their efforts and the improvement week on week is evident for all to see.
We are once again at home next week against FDS which will be a stern test but one we are all looking forward to.
