K2000 started their first game of the new season, against a strong team who travelled down from Peterhead.
The first period saw both teams start brightly, with Kemnay creating a couple of decent chances that were saved by the Peterhead keeper. The 'Blue Toon' started to get on top a little, and managed to score 4 in this part of the game.
K2000 replied through the ever buoyant Nathan Sangster, who celebrated his fine finish with a trademark somersault, which seemed to defy all the laws of gravity!
The second part of the game again found Peterhead too strong for their hosts. Ben Bell in goal, was given little protection from his midfield and defenders, leaving the away side to score 6 against Kemnay's 1. The scorer for K2000 were Liam Clark, who was in a bullish mood in midfield, tackling strongly and doing his best to drive on some of his more lacklustre colleagues. This left the score at 10-2 to Peterhead going into the final third of the game.
This was perhaps the most successful part of the match for K2000, the defence seemed stronger, and more organised, with Liam Clark this time behind them in goal. K2000 actually lost this section 4-2, but on the whole a much better performance was produced. Nathan Sangster stole the limelight again, with two typical goals, lots of strength and bravery, and no lack of skill! This gave the wee fella his (and K2000's) first ever hat-trick, and was greatly deserved, considering he had to come off for a while after a hefty knock during the second part of the game.
The coaches present on the day John, David and Ally all felt that perhaps the lack of a game the week before gave the Peterhead team an edge in terms of organisation, and hope to see the improvement continue next week at the game away to Newmachar.
This game's KO has actually been changed to 12.00 noon, so could everyone, please take note.
Due to a pre-arranged golf outing, both John and David will be missing next week, leaving the team in the capable hands of Ally and Jamie.
Thanks to all the players and parents for the great attitude at our first game of the season, and here's hoping we can carry on the good work in the coming weeks.
