K2000 v Culter BC

When Where
26 Apr 2009 - 10:30am Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

Kemnay 2000  (4)  v  (5 ) Culter BC

Kemnay hosted Culter BC on a beautiful morning for football.  Both teams were well supported by a large crowd of family and friends.

The first period finished 1-1 with K2000 taking time to settle into the game. The goal came from a good pass from midfield from Duncan Mutch to Nathan Sangster, who still had some work to do seeing off a defender, before slotting past the advancing keeper.  His goal was celebrated by a cartwheel cum forward roll, which wouldn't have looked out of place at the Olympics!

A special mention should go to Nathan Smith in goal for the first two periods, who looked very lively at every opposing attack, and showed great bravery on a couple of occasions by diving at the feet of the onrushing forwards.

The second period ended 3-2 to K2000, who dominated this part of the match. Scott Beverley started the ball rolling with an amazing shot from well inside his own half, perhaps best ignoring his coach's shout to control the ball, he hit a real daisy cutter which left the keeper wondering what was going on!  The second goal came from a cross from the right, which to everyone's  great delight was met by Samuel Payne who bundled the ball over the line for his first ever goal in Kemnay colours.  This obviously gave him a real boost, for a minute later, he turned provider, slipping a neat pass to Callum Campbell to hit a first time shot past the helpless Culter goalie.  This left the overall score at 4-3 to K2000.

Complacency perhaps got the better of home coach, Muirhead, who decided to put his players into positions which they weren't entirely comfortable with.  It took the players some time to settle in to the unfamiliar roles, and this was a major factor in K2000 losing the last section of the game 2-0.  Duncan Mutch who had been put in goals, was at no fault for the 2 goals Culter scored, the midfield and defence in front of him could have done much more to help.  The final 2 goals by Culter left the overall score at
K2000 (4), Culter BC (5).

On the whole, a good performance from K2000, and has maybe taught the coaches a valuable lesson about tinkering with a team that's doing well!

K2000's final fixture of the season is next week  (3rd May), away to Fraserburgh.
