FDS 4 Kemnay FC Juve 1

Kemnay made the journey into Aberdeen for their penultimate game of the first half of the season to play FDS on the astroturf pitch at Kaimhill. Reuben was unavailable due to a gymnastics competition but other than that Kemnay had a full squad to choose from. Unfortunately only Reuben would be doing cart wheels on the day.

The match kicked off and it was FDS who came out of the blocks quickest, playing some good football and causing the visitors problems with their touch, skill and movement. Kemnay perhaps didn't help themselves by allowing the hosts to play the ball out from ther back and not getting closer to their opponents, but they really did play some good football and created a number of opportunities to score. Kemnay had to be content with the odd counter-attack and even when they did get a sight of goal their luck just wasn't in. Kemnay weren't helped by an injury enforced early change - Matthew Robertson being replaced by Matthew Law.

Although Kemnay tried hard and worked hard, with Sebastian a stand out in the first 20, it was FDS who had the better of the opening period and ended it two goals to the good. Indeed Mason and Cameron had to be at their best to deny the hosts a few more goals and Archie had to show great reflexes to pull off two or three excellent saves.

After a coaches pep-talk it was a far more competitive Kemnay team that emerged for the second period. They were much stronger in the tackle all over the pitch, far more composed on the ball, supported each other much better, played some lovely football and could have scored a couple of goals themselves. Matthew Law was causing FDS some problems with his strong and skilful running. Indeed it was Matthew who came closest to getting a goal for Kemnay. Sebastian picked up the ball and beat his marker on the right. He played the ball inside to Matthew who did well to find himself a yard of space before forcing the FDS keeper into a good save from distance.

The game was end to end now with both teams matching up well. It was FDS who grabbed the only goal of the second 20 to take a 3-0 lead. A much more encouraging period from the visitors.

The third 20 started in much the same manner. FDS looked threatening when they came forward - Archie denying their strikers with a few more excellent stops. One instinctive stop high to his right was as good as anything Jamie Langfield could hope to do. Kemnay too had their moments, playing some good link up play and testing the home goalkeeper. FDS did score again to take a 4-0 lead which was perhaps a little harsh on Kemnay who were contributing to a good game of football. Mason and Cameron were combining well at the back and doing well to break up FDS attacks, Matthew, Sebastian and Liam were combining well in midfield and Ethan was working his socks off, with little luck in front of goal.

That's not to say that Kemnay didn't have their chances. Lewis Beattie came close after a great run down the left and Ethan had a chance when through on the keeper but narrowly missed.

Kemnay did eventually get the goal their endeavours deserved. Matthew Robertson, now recovered from his earlier injury, did well to latch on to a long ball through the middle. He found himself one on one with the FDS goalkeeper who inexplicably decided to try and kick the ball rather than gather it. He caught Matthew with high boot and the referee awarded a penalty. Matthew Robertson picked himself up and made no mistake with the spot kick, slamming it high to the goalkeepers left.

All in all Kemnay competed well after a slow first 20 minutes and certainly there are undoubtedly signs of improvement as we head towards our final fixture of the year against Dyce BC and the winter break. On a day when Kemnay probably had to do more defending, the player of the match award goes to a defender.
