Colony Colts 2 Kemnay FC Juve 11

With Cameron and Reuben away for the October holidays, it was a depleted Kemnay squad of eight players that took the short trip to Port Elphinstone for the local derby against Colony Colts.

The game kicked off in bright if blustery conditions and both teams seemed intent on keeping the ball on the ground as if to nullify the wind that blew down the park. The first five minutes of the game were very evenly matched with Archie called into action early on to deny Colony with a couple of fine stops from shots. If anything Colony were having the better of things, however it was the visitors who broke the deadlock with a goal via Route 1. Archie gathered a shot well and released an excellent kick from hand into Ethan's path. He bore down on goal and as the keeper came out, Ethan placed a good shot low into the right corner to make it 1-0.

This goal seemed to settle Kemnay and they proceeded to play some good composed football in the remainder of the first period. They doubled their lead with a well worked goal. Matthew Law collected the ball deep in his own half and played it inside to Sebastian, he took a good touch and played a reverse pass into Matthew's path. He made a great run down the right and when he played a low cross into the box, it was Ethan who was on hand to bundle the ball in at the near post. Further good football resulted in Kemnay  adding a third shortly before the break. Liam and Matthew played a neat 1-2 before setting Matthew Robertson free on the left and his shot beat the Colony keeper to make it 3-0.

The second period saw Kemnay pick up where they left off and after a lovely pass by Matthew Robertson, Ethan got his third goal with a powerful finish into the top corner. Colony reacted well to this setback and played some good football of their own and they got the goal their play deserved when a long range shot found the net, despite Archie getting a hand to it. Soon after they doubled their tally when some slack defending gave their striker a free shot on goal and he made no mistake to cut the deficit to 4-2. The visitors had the final say of the half and Ethan scored again to make it 5-2 after two periods.

The third period belonged largely to Kemnay. After a more difficult second period, they settled again into playing some good football. They scored their sixth goal when after some good build up play on the right, Ethan sent a powerful shot goalwards. The goalkeeper saved well, low to his right but could only parry the ball into the path of Lewis who had supported really well and he slammed the ball into the empty net to get his first of the game. Ethan scored twice in quick succession, reacting quickest following a stramash in the Colony Colts goalmouth and then diverting the ball into the net following a good cross from the right.

Kemnay were playing some good stuff at times and they finished the game stronger than their opponents. After excellent build up play by Sebastian, he set up Ethan to score his seventh and Kemnay's ninth goal.

And to cap a fine individual performance Ethan scored two more goals in the last few minutes to take his tally to nine in the game.

The scoreline probably flattered Kemnay slightly as Colony did play some good football throughout the game. Their passing was as good as Kemnay's and they too retained the ball well when given the opportunity. However when they did get past the defence which was well marshalled by Mason and Liam, they found Archie in top form with a number of excellent saves. But all in all a very encouraging performance by Kemnay. Mason and Liam defended solidly, the midfield of Lewis, Matthew Law and Sebastian showed good interplay at times and there was a ruthless display of goal scoring by Ethan, ably backed up by Matthew Robertson.
